Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Using Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 LTS with latest updates. After installing updates on 5-24-08, nautilus is not able to access the trash folder. Trying to access from desktop gives error "Couldn't display trash:, there is noapplication installed for this file type." No idea what caused it. I did notice an update to Nautilus in the latest bundle, so I guess that was what did it.

thank you for your bug report, is gvfsd-trash running? does gvfs-ls trash: works correctly?

No, gvfsd-trash is not running, and the command you gave comes back as beng invalid, even after I instaled the required package.

~$ gvfs-ls trash:
Error: Operation not supported
~$

I can access and manipulate the folder using Thunar, though...

could you run /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd -r on a command line, and start running /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-trash then and note what is printed when running the commands and when trying to use gvfs-ls or nautilus?

I have the exact same problem. When I try to run /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd -r nothing happens and /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-trash gives: "Added new job source 0x8075808 (GVfsBackendTrash)
Queued new job 0x8076820 (GVfsJobMount)
send_reply, failed: 0
register_mount_callback, mount_reply: (nil), error: 0x8073840
Mount failed: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already registered"
Like Sebastien, it happened on Ubuntu 8.04 after a recent upgrade. Very annoying for a noob like me who was looking for a more reliable OS.

Trash can be deleted but not accessed for viewing.

nothing is printed on the command line when you try to open the trash in nautilus then? could you try to stop gvfsd-trash before starting a new one?

Strange but it works now. I don't know how but it is solved. I tried the commands above and it didn't seem to work. I removed and add the trash icon on the panel, I rebooted and now it is working. Happy camper again :-)
