Is this straight out of install? Did you recently do anything that could have caused this? (e.g., remove packages)

marktechey (marktechey) wrote :

No, this happened after an update. I got something like
media type .... file type `x-content\*
(Repeat around 15 times)

What version of Ubuntu are you running?

I get that error when installing/reinstalling the following packages

nautilus-data
shared-mime-info

The icons return when I use a 3rd party theme, such as mac4lin, but with ubuntu themes, the icons are gone.

ulrich (ulrich) wrote :

same here. when installing hardy alpha 3, the icons were right.
after some upgrade, i see the exact same behavior.

Same behaviour here, I cannot use 'extract-here' with archive files.

I just tried a fresh install of Ubuntu Hardy Alpha 3 and still get this problem. All I did, besides the install, was an update.

What mimetype value do you have in the properties dialog? The icon issue is bug #188542 and only a graphical issue, the mimetype used is correct

Changed in shared-mime-info:
assignee: nobody → desktop-bugs
importance: Undecided → Low
status: Confirmed → Incomplete
marktechey (marktechey) wrote :

The mimetype value is correct. For example on a .tar.gz file, the mimetype in the properties dialog is 'application/x-compressed-tar'. I believe this bug is a duplicate of bug #188542 but I'm not positive.

Sebastien Bacher (seb128) wrote :

the icon issue is a duplicate and a known bug, the context menu actions are supposed to work, do you still have issue with those?

Hi Sebastian,
context menu actions are working for me now.

marktechey (marktechey) wrote :

The context menu actions are also working for me.

Sebastien Bacher (seb128) wrote :

closing as duplicate since the context menu issue is fixed and the icon one is already known

Changed in shared-mime-info:
status: Incomplete → Invalid
