Bug Description

After updating to Ubuntu 19.04 dev branch, nautilus does not open at all. Moreover, trying to open nautilus from the terminal does not give any error, nor any output at all, and no window opens.

I don't really know how to report this bug without any terminal output.

Update: Enabling and disabling the search and notification permissions on Settings->Applications->Nautilus solved the problem.

I will leave the bug report open as I think there is still a bug involved (maybe related to tracker?).

Same issue here, same workaround helps.

Sebastian, it's seems like Nautilus does not crash. It just start, sit there and do nothing, not even create a window, yet still running in background.

Same issue for me. It was working for a while and all of a sudden it stopped. The workaround mentioned in #2 doesn't work for me.

Workaround does not help me too anymore. So there is possibility that after system upgrade there was one issue, and now it's another.

Interestingly, I left virtual machine with not working Nautilus running, and few hours later found that Nautilus started after all. So it's not like it not working at all, it's just take few minutes/hours to show the window.

I restored virtual machine backup created yesterday and this was reproducible.

Could you report it upstream on https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/issues/? From the backtrace it looks like it's stucked in some tracker call

Hello,

As RussianNeuroMancer, my explorer finally starts after almost one hour.
But i'm not on virutal machine, it's happening on my laptop under 19.04.
We are 4 working with same settings and i'm the only one experiencing this issue..

Hi,

in case that helps, I have noticed that this bug is 100% reproducible for me hen I try to start Nautilus right after booting my laptop. If, however, I wait for a few minutes after booting, I can start Nautilus without any delay.

Also in case that helps, I experience the same bug. In addition, #2 did not work for me. Immediately after executing "tracker reset -e" on a shell, nautilus shows instantly after a click, but the problem comes back at the next reboot.

Same experience as julo. Also, I have a storage volume I use to mount manually after boot. If I mount it quickly I have no problems. Sometimes I get into this bug. And sometimes all starred locations on that volume disapper. It appears to be a race between me and the tracker.

Was able to have Nautilus back doing "killall nautilus; nautilus --check" on terminal, but just for the current session.
