Bug Description
Binary package hint: nautilus
I did a fresh install of amd64 gutsy using alternate cd. Box worked fine untill I installed (security) updates using update-manager. After updating it boots normally and I have tty consoles working. When I login from gdm the login sound plays, mouse cursor is there and moves, keyboard lights work, but nothing else happens, solid brown background (no image) and cursor is all I get. From tty I see gnome-panel and nautilus are eating up all cpu and the size of ~/nautilus-

in /var/log/kern.log I have
... timestamp and stuff ... nm-applet[5392]: segfault at 00002b18ffa0eeff rip 00002b180c9405b0 rsp 00007fffa52bf6a8 error 4
Looks like there's 1-3 lines per login trial and segfaulting progs are from the set of three, update-notifier and gnome-panel, in addition to nm-applet.
My box is Athlon64, two SATA drives, /boot on sda1 uses XFS, / on raid0 uses XFS
After downgrading gnome-panel and gnome-panel-data to 2.20.0.1-0ubuntu6 nautilus alone was eating cpu after login. No other changes.
Additionally downgrading libgnome-desktop-2, libgnomeui-0 and libgnomeui-common to 2.20.0-0ubuntu1 did not change the situation any further.
The same thing with gutsy i386, same hw, same installation params.
