Works absolutely fine here, maybe reporter needs a new mouse or better control of his finger on a touchpad, should be marked as invalid.

Amending last comment, this does occur but only in wayland

Sorry, forgot that I don't use wayland in practice as it's not close to ready but should when testing.
To note: this doesn't occur in a gnome session where the context menu is opened inside the header bar so maybe add ubuntu-session.

As a workaround, if you keep the right-click pressed until you move the mouse cursor over another item in the menu, it works.

no longer affects: wayland (Ubuntu)

The problem is that you don't see you're actually selecting Minimize (try holding the right button down for a while). Duplicate of bug 1717446...

Sorry, that makes two separate bugs. This is no longer a duplicate. But see also bug 1717446.

summary: Unable to use window menu in default GNOME applications (such as Gedit)
- - window minimizes on right click
+ - window minimizes on right click due to wrongly placed bubble menu.

unsure it has to do with the placement of the menu though, the item shouldn't activate when you unpress the button

Now that you mention it, I'm not sure. It's not uncommon for some toolkits to be designed to activate a popup-menu item on button release. I didn't consider that part a bug.

But the menu is definitely placed incorrectly, only for Gedit.

Atm I'd put 'blame' on ubuntu themes (ambiance, radiance) while in wayland session & maybe only with gedit.
If using awaita theme this won't occur even if the bubble menu opens slightly outside header bar.
(- it seems the actual cursor position when initiating the r. click will affect where the top of the bubble menu is.
