Bug Description

I restart the computer, and went he start the session... My desktop got all /Home/"user"/ folder on it. No shortcut. Now, that look like them the computer lose the desktop configuration and copy the user folder to it. And all folders from my desktop (my original desktop), are unreachable. The nautilus don't see any difference at all between my user folder (/home/user) and the desktop.

And now, all the system is really really slow....

System: Ubuntu 7.10 -- Kernel linux 2.6.22-14-generic -- Gnome 2.20.1

I will try to reinstall without formating, but i hope than you can fix that bug. The product it's really good, it's a shame this kind of bug. If you got a solution without reinstall, I would like than you contact we me to explain, how i can recover my information and configuration.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
Is it possible you have changed the name of the Desktop directory in your home directory? Bug 151576 seems to describe something similar as you are seeing.

Please attach the file ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs to this bug report and mention the name of your real desktop directory (i.e. it may have the word Desktop in your own language).
