Bug Description

In Ubuntu 16.04< I was able to grab any file or folder icon, and then drag it onto another folder icon (without letting go the mouse button), and that folder would open up. I could repeat this until the desired location has opened, and then let go of the mouse button and drop the file there.

Now, with 16.10 (beta), this behavior is currently not available, which is a huge inconvenience considering how awesome the default behavior in 16.04 was.

Hope this will get fixed asap. :)

Thanks.

Change setting in dconf; 'open-folder-on-dnd-hover' to true, this will activate this behavior.

Thank you for the workaround, Göran!

Will this be addressed officially so it'll work out of the box again, too?

I doubt it. The alternative should at least be exposed in Nautilus 'Behavior-settings' dialog. The fact that you can regret a move or copy operation if you accidentally drop a file/folder in the wrong place doesn't make the behavior such a show-stopper.

Thanks for the info! I agree with adding this to the Nautilus behavior settings; such option is to useful to fall by the wayside; I use it all the time!
