Nautilus refuses to exit, and uses up 100% of CPU

Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

I'm using Nautilus 2.20.0 on Ubuntu Gutsy (upgraded from Feisty - I suspect the fact that I upgraded is somehow relevant). Sometimes, if I close a Nautilus window, the process itself does not exit and the CPU usage immediately jumps up to 100% until I kill Nautilus manually. Here are the 2 cases where this behavior occurs:
-If I'm logged in as me, and I run nautilus as root
-If I log out, Nautilus keeps running when I try to start a new session (then when I log back in, the desktop fails to load - I've added the line "pkill nautilus" to the file /etc/gdm/PostSession/Default as a workaround for this case)

I suspect that this problem has something to do with Nautilus expecting some kind of service to be running, then if it isn't, it fails to exit. If I need to produce some kind of debug output, please let me know what command I need to use.

I posted this thread on the Ubuntu Forums about this bug:

Another person had the exact same problem as me on a Feisty -> Gutsy upgrade (but this was back before Gutsy was officially released):
