Bug Description
The trash bin icon is shown as containing files, yet the nautilus Trash window shows no files. The "Empty" button is enabled though. When pressed, the confirm dialog is shown - upon confirming, nothing is done though - the nautilus Trash still shows no files, the "Empty" button stays enabled and the Unity trash bin icon stays full. Attaching screenshot of the issue.

Thank you for your bug report. Do you have hidden files in there? Does it list anything if you do "ctrl-h"?
