1. Open any folder
2. Change view from Icons to List (Click by menu "View -> List" or Ctrl+1).
3. Close folder
4. Open the same folder -> Instead of List view you will see Icons view again.

Does it happen in any folder? Could you try in a guest session?

Same thing. The per folder views worked perfectly in 12.04LTS. Was removing this intended functionality?

I will be a very bad bug submitter upstream; would be great if someone
else could notify them...

Windows Explorer allows for users to set a default view to all folders. In almost the same way, Ubuntu's Files Manager allows for these settings:

Set File BrowserClick the Files icon on the Launcher.
From the menu, click "Edit" then "Preferences".
Under Default View, change "Icon View" to "List View", to see more details in columns.

Hope this helps!

Hi dilshak,

your tipp doesn't help. Setting the default list or Icon display for Nautilus works and ist not the problem repoerted with this bug. The problem is: for every induvidual folder we would like to have that Nautilus is saving the display format. Befor 14.04 it was working in this way. For an example: all my picture folders should bi displayed as Icons, but my home folder should allways be in the list format.

Hope this clarify what the bug is!

Any progress on this subject? The saving of the folder/items view is essential to me, so I hope there will be some action. Thanks in advance!

Found workaround for this issue.
Use “dconf Editor” (installed in UbuntuGnome 14.04 by default)
Org->gnome->nautilus->preference->default-folder-viewer, change it to “list_view” from drop down list.

@qu9542 Thanks for the comment, I desperately hope for a solution, otherwise I will have to change to another file browser. Not sure if this works for me as the default-folder-viewer is already set to "list-view", but it does not save the items view per folder. Does it save the items view (icon or list) in your nautilus?
On my system it only shows the list view by default, but would not save the last view per folder. I don't want to have it always in the list view, some folders, e.g. pictures are nicer to view in the icon view. And when I switch from a picture folder to another folder in the same tab, I would like to have the list view for other folders, not the persisting icon view.
But maybe this behaviour happens on your system what would be nice, but I can not reproduce it.

I think that's not a bug. Maybe a feature, but adding function "Apply current folder view to all folders" will be interesting.

I agree, I even think such a function (save items view) was very helpful, as it adds to the flexibility of the file manager. Maybe create a separate report card with a request to add this feature in Nautilus?

Actually, that function was in nautilus till ubuntu 12.10 I think. I found
the most simple way to restore habitable functionality by installing Nemo
(Nautilus fork)
