Bug Description

I run into this when copying several hundreds of photos from an SD card to a server. The problem is fully reproducible.

I can reproduce the bug like this:
1) Open a Nautilus window to view contents of an SD card (plugged into a USB 2.0 reader).
2) Open another window to view destination folder on the server.
3) Start to copy (drag'n'drop) photos from the SD card to the server as a one big chunk so that the whole process will take several minutes to complete.
4) Try to view a photo from the SD card while the copy is still in progress.

What should happen:
- The photo should open in the default image viewer.

What happens instead:
- Nothing happens. All Nautilus windows turn into grey and they don't respond anymore. The progress indicator on the Launcher gets stuck.
- Nautilus cannot be opened again. The computer has to be rebooted in order to use Nautilus again.

This is really bad. Now I run into this when transferring photos from my SGS2 via FTP. Trying to open an image from the phone while file copy is still in progress trashes Nautilus and this time also the copy process completely.

Hmm...I wasn't even able to log out as the whole desktop froze when I clicked the power icon. I had to kill X. Not nice.

On a new installation of Ubuntu 13.06, dragged the dropbox folder from old home directory to home directory to move it.
Nautilus froze. Nothing happened in a while so I force closed it. Now it opens with frozen blank window, and takes up loads of cpu, but never loads up. Dropbox installation was open in the background while this happened.

Do you still get that issue in newer Ubuntu versions?

Not on Ubuntu 18.10.

However, there's another usability issue: there's no progress dialog. This means that there's no obvious way to cancel the copy process. I can see only progress indicator in the launcher.

Closing then, thx! The copy indicator is a circle in the top bar of the view and you should be able to open the popdown/stop the copy from there
