Bug Description

Nautilus do not automatically update altered file- and folder status (eg. cut pasted away files) without user performing a manual refresh on the partition (or folder) in question. This problem concerns NFS mounted folders but also to a rather considerable extenth my (only) additional local partition (/media/Local), where some actions (eg. cut/paste) also requires a manual refresh.

Changes made in home folder refreshes automatically without any further user intervention.

NFS Trash has disappeared: I don't know if this behavior is in any way related to the afore mentioned, but moving files to Trash from NFS mounted partitions, results in a dialog promting that the files will be permnently deleted - which they in fact are, if you click OK.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

I stumbled on a fix and increased the systems inotyfy watches by entering the following line to /etc/sysctl.conf: fs.inotify.max_user_watches = 262144 .
I believe the default value is about 8000, and the above mentioned increase, with a slim increase in memory usage, cured all problems. The maintainer, Mr. Seabastian Bacher's advice to post this bug upstream (Gnome) is appreciated, but for time being I will not do so as this appears to be a kernel issue, after all.
