Bug Description

Since upgrade to 13.04 the bookmarks for smb shares disappear in the navigation bar at the left. Choosing files and bookmarks from the menu bar shows all bookmarks including the smb shares. Rearranging the smb shares in the bookmarks crashes nautilus. Restarting nautilus after the crash makes the smb shares reappear inthe navigation bar.

I've been seeing this too, incredibly annoying. And I've seen it on a totally clean install of 13.04. I've seen multiple ways to reproduce it:

1. Click bookmark to mount share
2. Unmount it
3. Close the nautilus window and re-open it, the bookmark is gone.

the other way it happens is whenever I plug in my nexus 7, as soon as the nexus mounts the bookmarks disappear.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

@ seb128, I'm not sure it is

1. This was on a clean install, so I'd assume the new bookarks I created would be saved in the proper location?
2. The bookmark "works". It shows up in the sidebar. The problem is after mounting/unmounting the share and then closing the nautilus window the bookmark disappears. It re-appears after killing nautilus and restarting it
3. I didn't have this problem with nautilus 3.6.3 in other distros I've used (fedora, arch, opensuse)

To me it does not sound like a duplicate of #1168383, as the crash is related to the sorting of bookmarks, rather than simply using them.

Removing all bookmarks from 12.10 and recreating them in 13.04 fixed the issue for me.

@Ben, if you mount one of your bookmarked shares, then unmount it, and then close the nautilus window and re-open nautilus, are you bookmarked shares still on the sidebar?

Regarding my previous comment #9: it is not fixed.

With the same version of nautilus (3.6.3) and gvfs (1.16) in arch linux I do not see the disappearing share issue at all. I also do not see it on a raring live usb, but when I clean install raring and update the bug re-appears. I am convinced that this is not an upstream bug, and that its causes by some sort of ubuntu patch or backport to these backages that was introduced in a post release update.

If i position myself in another place (e.g. the home folder) before unmounting, the bookmark does not disappear.
