Bug Description

Since the I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.1, Nautilus file browser are very slow to open and then to navigate trough the local folders. If I execute Nautilus with "sudo" command it's much faster. It's work also normaly with remote folder like sftp (ssh).

I try to disable the generating of the thumbnail, but still the same, and when I choice "Never" or "only local files it's take a very long time to save the option.

Some times it's so long that a window is appear and tell me that I have to wait until the folder will be open. It's a very significantly diffirence between the ubuntu 12.0

I have this same problem. This was a fresh install if the 32bit desktop on an atom chip.

I also see this message in the .xsession-errors file:

Nautilus-Share-Message: Called "net usershare info" but it failed: 'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare directory /var/lib/samba/usershares. Error No such file or directory
Please ask your system administrator to enable user sharing.

I'm not running Samba, nor do I need to in my pure Linux NFS world.

I fixed the above by creating the directory it wanted, but things are still slow unless I start nautilus as root.

Workaround: I installed the PCmanFM package :

sudo apt-get install pcmanfm
pcmanfm

this is a good alternative as Nautilus and he is very fast.

Nautilus 3.6 is so much faster. This issue must be resolved for all Ubuntu 12.10 users. Because file browsing is an essential part of the OS interface, this should be attributed a very high priority.
