1. Stop dropbox.
2. Open /usr/share/applications/dropbox.desktop for editing.
3. Change "Exec=dropbox start -i" to "Exec=env XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity dropbox start -i".
4. Copy /usr/share/applications/dropbox.desktop to ~/.config/autostart/dropbox.desktop or just make same change to autostart file.

I had a similar issue here, but solved it with the following:
killall indicator-application-service
sudo apt remove indicator-application

I use a different workaround, which seems to fix additional indicators besides dropbox.
In file /usr/share/xsessions/gnome-flashback-metacity.desktop, I add "Ubuntu;Unity" to the variable "DesktopNames".

Hey, sorry for the long delay in fixing this bug. This issue should be fixed in the latest beta build, v64, without the dbus-launch hack (tested with Gnome Flashback on Ubuntu 18.04).

You can download it from this page: https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Desktop-client-builds/Beta-Build-64-3-120/m-p/317429

Untar it into your home directory to install it (it will extract everything into .dropbox-dist).
