Insofar as I understand it, the RedHat folks can decide what the package will be called in their own distribution, and which package to use. If noone wants to step up and maintain a package named "nagios-plugins" (for whatever reasons), I guess there just won't be one. Fortunately, a substitute which is guaranteed to be 100% compatible already exists, and I'd be happy to maintain that myself, or help anyone else who wants to take that role.

Sam, feel free to email me off-list if you need a hand with the monitoring-plugins package. We already have developers evaluating and working on them.
