It offers better security.

Packages are available on PPA's, please include in the official repositories.

The problem is that it isn't really clear what is the "official" n2n anymore and noone who did a fork has really stepped up to say they will indeed carry on the torch after they applied their pet patch.

I suspect you are talking about https://svn.ntop.org/svn/ntop/trunk/n2n/n2n_v2/ ?

I vaguely remember talking with upstream about it and IIRC they recommended not to use it. On their own homepage they rather promote https://github.com/lukablurr/n2n_v2_fork/
