Bug Description

Binary package hint: mythtv

MythTV v. 0.20 in Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft

When running the mythtv frontend in windowed mode (and only when a recording is being watched), if a window from another program is layered on top of the mythtv window and is clicked on, a system freeze occurs that requires a hard reboot using the reset button. Exiting to a terminal via Ctrl-Alt-F1 etc. does not work, nor does Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to restart Gnome; the system becomes entirely non-responsive. This happens 100% of the time when the situation that is described occurs.

Hi,

I had similar problem when using xvmc on nvidia.

When starting mythfrontend with
--override-setting PreferredMPEG2Decoder=ffmpeg
there is no problem.

What do you use ?

Hallo Kurt,

Ich lerne Deutsch, also ich antworte auf Deutsch. Entschuldigen Sie, bitte. :)

Ich benutze "Standard" in das "TV Settings->Playback" Menu. Ich weiss nicht ob "Standard" ist ffmpeg. Wenn ich benutze "--override-setting PreferredMPEG2Decoder=ffmpeg", es gibt Systemzusammenbruch noch. Vielen Dank fur die Helfe.

Here's the reply in English:

I'm using "Standard" in the "TV Settings->Playback" menu. I don't know if this is ffmpeg or not. When I use "--override-setting PreferredMPEG2Decoder=ffmpeg" it still causes the entire system to freeze. Thanks for the tip.

For some weekes now, I had this problem with setting "Standard" in the "TV Settings->Playback" menu too. (On Ubuntu Feisty and on Gentoo.)

Today I disabled the "Support for the Xorg Composite Extension" on Gentoo (USE-Flag xcomposite),
installed new builds of the affected packages kwin and kicker
and now it seems to work without any problems there.

BTW I had
Option "Composite" "Disable"
in my /etc/X11/xorg.xonf anyway, but this seems not to be enough.

Mybe someone should try this on Ubuntu too :)
