Bug Description

Binary package hint: mythtv

When I attempt to play some mythtv recordings the entire mythtv-frontend crashes taking my login session with me. I then have to log back in and I lose all the other open applications. This happens on both when playing the recordings on the backend or using mythtv-frontend on one of our maverick laptops. This bug report was from one of the laptops, not the backend.

It doesn't happen with all recordings, just some. I haven't worked out yet if there is any common factor in the recordings, I'll keep watch and report back. Playing the recording using the ASX stream from mythweb appears to work on the same laptop as this crash report, but it does appear a bit jerky but totem doesn't report any problems with it.

ok, I've delved a little deeper into this, and it appears to be happening on recordings that show the 1080 icon in mythtv. This leads me to believe that this computer might not be up to playing HD recordings as it is currently setup. A more graceful failure mode would be useful though.

summary: - mythtv frontend crashes and logs-out on playing bad recording

On the backend pc, the full videos (as downloaded from mythweb) play fine in VLC, but they still crash mythtv-frontend and the full login session when we attempt to play them using mythtv-frontend.

It appears this crash (at least on the backend pc, I haven't checked the others) was being caused by a Playback Profile that included the use of XvMC. Once I changed to a different playback profile that didn't use XvMC everything appears fine.

Howdy, and thank you for helping to improve MythTV and Ubuntu by opening this ticket. Could you please report what video card you are using, and if you are loading any video drivers, what version they are? Thank you!
