Bug Description

Binary package hint: mythtv

Sometimes when I start `mythfrontend`, it does not respond to events from LIRC. Keyboard input works just fine. I can see LIRC working from the output of `irw` and my "application starter" script, which is run by `irexec`. If I kill the front-end and start it again, the remote usually works.

I have a iMON-PAD (15c2:0036), which now works out of the box with 9.10 :-)

Note: mythfrontend.real has multiple <defunct> children, and MythTV sometimes crashes or exits TV mode, especially when programs start and end.

The problem persists with mythtv-trunk from SVN.

Note that using `irxevent` works. So if I have the following in my .lircrc:

begin
    remote = iMON-PAD
    prog = irxevent
    button = Ch+
    repeat = 0
    config = Key Up CurrentWindow
end

begin
    remote = iMON-PAD
    prog = mythtv
    button = Ch-
    config = Down
    repeat = 0
    delay = 0
end

Then channel up works, while channel down many times does not.

It seems like if I get lucky and everything works, they keep on working if I restart mythtv quickly over and over.

BTW: I get the following in my /var/log/mythtv/mythfrontend.log before LIRC works:

    2009-04-01 08:21:53.569 lirc init success using configuration file: /home/nins/.mythtv/lircrc

Is there some easy way I can debug this problem?

Klem fra Nils

After an update of X packages today to version 1:7.4+3ubuntu10, this seems to happen less often for me. The mythfrontend is non-responsive to LIRC events only after every 10th-20th restart.

Note that when this happens, mythfrontend still notices if I `sudo service lirc restart`:

2009-12-01 07:55:12.296 LIRC: GetCodes -- eof?
2009-12-01 07:55:14.296 LIRC: Successfully initialized '/dev/lircd' using '/home/nins/.mythtv/lircrc' config

And it also happens with revision 22941 of mythtv-0-22 from SVN.

I have mythwelcome set to start at boot, it sometimes doesn't respond to lirc events, but if I press enter to start mythfrontend then mythfrontend does respond to lirc events.

I was wondering if mythwelcome was starting before lirc has started.

Changed in mythtv (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed

I haven't seen this problem for a while.
Marc: irexec is not involved, but 563139 could be a dup.
