Bug Description

Jaunty Alpha 5, MythTV ran with no problems, but since running Dist-Upgrade on Monday 16-03-2008 MythFrontend and Mythtv-Setup are unable to draw. Running on an ATI Radeon X300 using the OpenSource drivers.
The Gnome screen switched focus to where the Myth app (frontend or setup) should be, and one black box outline is drawn, it looks like the box where Myth shows the updating icons box. However after that nothing else happens and the screen is locked. You can alt-tab back into a launch terminal and ctrl-c or kill the Myth app to stop it.

Pages of errors in a terminal relate to this :
X Error: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) 8
  Major opcode: 62
  Minor opcode: 0
  Resource id: 0x3800030
X Error: RenderBadPicture (invalid Picture parameter) 160

Linux MediaCentre 2.6.28-10-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Mon Mar 16 02:49:09 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

Try running in QT mode rather than OpenGL mode. Do problems happen there?

I'm using the QT painter by default always have done, nothings changed there. I have launched it from shell using the Force QT option however and it's the same.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

I have also tried the --reset flag with frontend in case it needed to be forced to refresh some stuff after the upgrade was applied, but still the same.

Well the other important point is i know -ati driver is in flux. It's
possible that if you don't have the kernel and userspace parts in sync (as
the archive has delays), that might be causing some troubles too

I knew there were problems with the ATI fglrx driver, those are noted on the release notes for Jaunty, but I didn't know the open source radeon drivers were dodgy as well?
I will keep upgrading and hope it sorts it's self, but I felt this was a fairly important bug.

I have noted my findings on the original bug report, it would be interesting to find out what video card drivers others with the same problem are using.

That's the reason I marked this as a duplicate. They were also using the
radeon drivers.

He is on the laptop, but he mentioned a test on a desktop with no related hardware and the same thing occured. I've asked to check if the desktop does indeed have ATI graphics

I have the same issues with a clean 9.04 beta install under VMWare Fusion 2.04

I've tried the vesa and vmware video drivers, as well as trying to use the QT mode and always get the same results.
