Text displayed as blocks in 13.04

I done a clean install of 13.04 and installed mysql workbench.

I ran 'mysql-workbench' from the terminal and noticed a warning / error

Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf", line 9: reading configurations from ~/.fonts.conf is deprecated.

Opened the file '/etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf' and saw it mentioned removing some lines (including line 9) so I removed them.

mysql workbench then displays correctly.

Another thing.

I tried a few different versions of mysql workbench before figuring it out and they were all the same.

installed via apt-get / download from mysql site was the same.
