Bug Description

i tried installing mysql in ubuntu 16.04, as it installed mysql-5.7 and I wanted 5.6 , I uninstalled 5.7 and installed 5.6 instead. After a few days, doing a scan of my open ports, a crash report pops up saying mysql-5.7 crashed and in the summary says it's not installed. Not sure what this means.

Hi,
the error you ran into is from your logs:
mysql_upgrade: Got error: 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) while connecting to the MySQL server

That is unfortunately a known error which seems to take a while to resolve.
I'll dup your bug onto it, but for you the TL;DR is that it is evry likely to work on a retry as it is a race to not be available fast enough on install.
