Hi Jesse and paulo,
From the log:
mysql_upgrade: Got error: 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) while connecting to the MySQL server

That is a known race, usually you can get around by retrying.
There is work on this issue ongoing and I'll dup you to the main bug for that now.
