this is a known issue that is being worked on, from your log:
mysql_upgrade: Got error: 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) while connecting to the MySQL server

TL;DR it is a race and usually resolvable by retrying the update/install.

I'll dup you on the bug this is worked on to be resolved for real at some point down the road.
