Bug Description

"do-release-upgrade" on Ubuntu14.04.5, both mysql-server-5.7 and php7 didn't installed properly, sites that where working before the upgrade, now just show PHP code in browser :-(

Please take a look at https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/MySQL/FAQ for tips on fixing common upgrade issues.
Once the problem is resolved, run apt-get --fix-broken install to retry.

So effectively this is a change in mysql that no more supports the old configuration.
The upgrade path takes care of the most common cases, but some can't be automated.

In your older setup you likely had some log entries that mentioned it being deprecated (as it was in 5.5), but now it stopped being supported at all.

Please adapt configuration for this (and maybe more) and you should be fine again.
