Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/998735/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

According to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage the gnome-power-manager package is most likely to cause the bug.

Hi,

I'm affected by this bug, but only when using cinnamon, not unity. Something was done in compiz to prevent this problem but this was not done in muffin/mutter.

I've found out that when using xscreensaver the issue happens as well, BUT when moving the mouse xscreensaver's password prompt shows up (with black background), and then goes away and blue comes back when the timeout expires, that sounds like some X buffer is turning blue, and xscreensaver is successful in overwriting it, while gnome-screensaver isn't.

I had the same issue with 12.04 and nvidea drivers. I even downloaded the Gnome Live image to report it as upstream bug. I think there was a bug in gnome-screensaver. But now after installing 12.10 the bug disappeared.

The bug is in mutter and muffin (which is a fork of mutter).

The upstream bug where it was finally fixed:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=677116

I'm attaching here the patch that fixes the problem for mutter.

affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) → mutter (Ubuntu)
