Pidgin crashes Unity Netbook when closing a tab

When I log into Unity, the first program I launch is Pidgin. I use it for IRC, so I get a message stating I have been logged in in the form of a normal chat. I close the tab that informs me that I have received a message and Unity crashes and restarts. (I am not logged out though, it just blanks out for a second).

Steps To Reproduce:

1, Log into Ubuntu Netbook
2. Start Pidgin
3, Log into Freenode on IRC, and get a PM from the bots
4. Close one of the two message tabs
5. Unity crashes and restarts.

Hello,
i can confirm that, i neet to ALT-TAB and kill mutter, otherwise the whole desktop keeps frozen, the mutter bug-buddy is hanging as well.

Its for me 100% reproducible, i thought it was a pidgin problem, but its not, after mutter restarts pidgin still running fine.

I could not find the trigger in pidgin thought its nice that if mutter is frozen i always see the latest output of the console of "pidgin -d" and its always another trigger, sometimes msn protocol when its crashes, sometimes irc and so on ... but mutter crashes EVERY pidgin start ...

No idea to get more information, as mutter runs as a service i have no idea how to start it via gdb for ex ...
