Bug Description

If nautilus is set to not show icons on the desktop, when you run "mutter --replace" in Ubuntu 9.10, the wallpaper is replaced by a solid white screen. Replacing mutter by metacity or compiz correctly reverts the wallpaper.

Also happens if using gnome-shell, the wallpaper is then replaced by a solid blue.

I'm not sure what mutter --replace does, but

suggests that you use gnome-shell --replace. Also, changes are often because the packages are compiled against git. Could you update the packages and see if the problem still exists?

This still happens with xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.13.1 and mutter 2.31.5 in Ubuntu 10.10.
