Bug Description

Moving mouse leaves a trail of squares for a few seconds on a fresh 20.04 install. This happens with proprietary nvidia 440 drivers on my GeForce GTX 1050 mobile.

Could be related to my submission https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-properties/+bug/1874819

Please try switching to nouveau and then log into 'Ubuntu on Wayland'. Does that avoid the problem?

Mouse trail is gone with nouveau, but desktop is very very slow in all three modes XOrg, Gnome Classic, and Ubuntu. I had to switch back to 440 to be able to work.

Switching drivers was only possible via CLI.

The mouse trail is only apparent on the background, not inside application windows.

Hmm, sounds like we still don't accelerated support for GTX 10 series (Pascal) chips in nouveau. So that's an inconclusive test. Thanks though.

Though that contradicts what you said at the top of the bug:

> This happens with proprietary nvidia 440 drivers as well as nouveau on my GeFOrce GTX 1050 mobile.

Can you please clarify which is true?

Tested again a few times: I confirm that switching to nouveau removes the mouse trail but slows down the desktop to unworkable.

To clarify #6: It could be that in my first test I did not reboot, although this is quite unlikely.
I could re-install the OS if you want me to try to replicate this.

What is for sure is that the Driver's GUI [attached] has issues:
1) After switching to nouveau (and reboot) it does not highlight "nouveau", but points to a new menu entry, "Continue using manually installed driver".
2) Options of switching drivers are greyed out after switching to Nouveau.
3) Claims that my Wifi is not working, but it works just fine.

Annother strange behaviour occurred today: The reboot after switching to Nouveau gets stuck at every boot with

     /dev/sda6 clean, 234123/26879978 files, 4048798/11234253 blocks

Workaround is booting into recovery, then select boot from there - it boots. This problem does disappear after switching to the proprietary display driver.

I found out how to stop and activate the bug.
Universal access:Zoom:on Produce trail
Universal Access:Zoom:off Stop the trail
Not tested on Ubuntu but on Manjaro.
Quite sure it's the same problem on Ubuntu.
