Bug Description

This issue started recently (I think it could be related to some package update.

Steps to reproduce:
 - Power the PC on;
 - BIOS Boot screen (not visible, the display is off);
 - GRUB screen (not visible, the display is off);
 - Gnome Login screen (not visible, the display is off).

Workaround:
 - after a reasonable time for the Gnome Login Screen to be reached, inserting my user password starts the desktop session. Screen is never shown on first try (the best I can get are short flashes of the desktop in the screen). The display keeps on trying to start.
 - long press the power button to force power down and immediately switch the PC back on --> after 1 or more workaround cycles the screen is shown (sometimes with wrong horizontal placement).

After the display is working, it works smoothly until the next power down (i.e. if I reboot the PC everything is visible from the BIOS Boot screen onward.

And then reboot.
