Wayland hangs?

Bug Description

I have an industrial PC that needs to run Ubuntu. Installing from USB stick was a hassle. (didn't work in dozens of combinations of memory stick (kingston/adata), usb slot (front, back), distribution(14.04, 16.04, 18.04), variant (server, desktop, mini, net)

When I finally got it installed, the PC would hang after booting, never completing to the login. A recovery boot allowed me to install ssh, and using SSH I could see the wayland process. I'm a bit wary of wayland, so I removed it and now the system boots.

I recognise this problem. It's a duplicate of bug 1727356.

And a fix is being worked on right now:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/merge_requests/160

affects: wayland (Ubuntu) → mutter (Ubuntu)
