I had the same issue and I disabling the default for Wayland also resolved it for me.

(I had to uncomment the line #WaylandEnable=false in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf.)

Initially after updating from 17.04 to 17.10 I had no troubles. For me this mouse issue appeared some time after (not right away) using ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/updates for the latest Mesa releases.

By the way, also mouse hovering over an element that would usually focus on hovering over it did not work for me in a Wayland session.

@tkr

Same fix for me but I am using: https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/ubuntu/graphics-drivers

Hovering also was ignored for me.

Oh boy, when I read your reply it somehow rang a bell ...

At home I checked what actual PPA I am using for the newest Mesa packages - and it turns out I too use https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/ubuntu/graphics-drivers

I mixed that up ...

PS: I got the fix from your hint in your post: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1730174/comments/13

Thanks for that - that made my day.

@tkr Np - it really smoothed things over for me too.

In terms of oibaf PPA, I am also pretty sure that mouse stuff was working for quite a while after initially setting up the PPA.

I also got this issue on 17.10 after installing linux kernel 4.15.1 (amd64, lot-latency) from Ubuntu kernel-ppa[1] and Vesa components from Padoka PPA[2] to get better support for my Vega 56 GPU

The problem with oibaf is that sometimes X won't start, and I have to purge them.
