Bug Description
Using the fix suggested here over the mupen64plus-core source package:
allowed me to run the emulator clean again on ubuntu kinetic (development branch).

The mupen64plus package installed in Kinetic still has the "pitch" problem. It will run from retroarch but will not connect to either keyboard or joystick. It will start from the command line but fails to open any rom file. It won't start from mupen64plus-qt - the failure log ends with the line "SDL_SetVideoMode failed: Parameter 'pitch' is invalid".
