Bug Description

ENVIRONMENT:
(any device) ubuntu-rtm/14.09-proposed build 13.
mtp-server 0.0.4+14.10.20140827-0ubuntu1
Windows 8.1 / Ubuntu / MacOS

SUMMARY:

When Ubuntu device is connected to the PC, selected Media Player is un-usable.

PRE-REQUISITE:
1) Ensure there are music files on the Ubuntu device

STEPS:
1) Connect Ubuntu device to PC over USB
2) Load Windows Media Player / rhythmbox / any media player with MTP support
3) Try and synchronise Ubuntu device or browse artists/albums/tracks on the Ubuntu device

EXPECTED RESULT:
1) Ubuntu device is recognised as MTP device
2) Ubuntu device is listed in media player as media device
3) It should be possible to view content on device and synchronise it with WMP

ACTUAL RESULT:
The track listing for the device is just a long list of files. (Unknown album/artist/genre)
It is also not possible to add any tracks to the Ubuntu device using the sync feature: for example, Windows Media Player reports: "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while synchronising the file to the device".

There is no media player support in any OS at the moment, so marking this Triaged/High; assigned to me.

I'll go ahead and adjust the title for this to be the master bug for media player support; and mark any others as duplicates.

I don't expect I will have much time to look into implementing this in the near future, perhaps it would be best if it was reassigned to someone else if it's a priority feature?

I think in short it needs to be taught how to deal with the media files, figuring out the artist/title and such via libid3 or some other attribute library of the sort (as I recall, there was one generic one which worked for many different formats), so that these can be exposed by the mtp server when asked. From there files should show with proper media tags rather than "Unknown".
