Weirdly, I thought I had replied to this.

I'm sorry, I don't speak Spanish; here are some instructions in English, with a Google translation below.

Please try the mscore-stable PPA. Add "ppa:mscore-ubuntu/mscore-stable" to your "Software Sources". See https://launchpad.net/~mscore-ubuntu/+archive/mscore-stable for more information.

David, could you advise users not to make that change in future? Ideally, they should upgrade to at least the 0.9.5 version using the mscore-stable PPA, and then use the PortAudio option if that upgrade still doesn't work. Adding "hw:0" is a bit too hard-wired for my liking, as it refers to "the first hardware sound card"; a reference which might vary if people use USB output etc.

Toby, thanks for letting me know about the "hw:0" thing.

If you get a chance, could you update the documentation: http://musescore.org/en/handbook/installation
Once you are logged in you should see an edit link.

I'm on Windows so I was repeating the information from that page.

Thanks for the pointer; the instructions given there are particularly
bizarre. They must be very old indeed.

Ideally, if it works, it's best not to change those settings. The
system uses PulseAudio, which should make that choice for you based on
your desktop configuration.

All the best,
