Bug Description

Dragging and dropping files into MPV doesn't work in Wayland sessions. Only Xorg sessions.

I have no idea right now if this is an MPV, Wayland protocol or Gnome Shell issue.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

That's odd. Even using the proposed fix for bug 1739625, this still doesn't work.

no longer affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
no longer affects: wayland (Ubuntu)

Triaged, I think. Upstream bug link added. A fix is in mpv 0.28.0 in theory:
https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/commit/68f9ee7e0b3fdddfa42fa11a15d9ae84460d5e19

affects: mpview → mpv
Doug McMahon (mc3man) wrote :

It would be fixed in 0.28+ but only if mpv is started with --gpu-context=wayland
Obviously that can't be a default parameter & to duly note there would be no window deco either.
Could be demonstrated by
 mpv --player-operation-mode=pseudo-gui --gpu-context=wayland --idle=yes

Or a wayland only user probably could put in ~/config/mpv.conf a section
[pseudo-gui]
gpu-context=wayland

mpv (0.29.0-1ubuntu1) cosmic; urgency=medium

  * Rewrote 08_fix-lp1698287.patch to work with the latest mpv source code,
allowing VAAPI to work in Wayland sessions out-of-the-box. (LP: #1698287)
  * Reintroduce mpv.conf.ubuntu to enable VAAPI acceleration by default.
    (LP: #1708102)
  * Rebased on latest Debian version 0.29.0-1.
