Bug Description
Binary package hint: mplayerthumbs
mplayerthumbs 0.5b only works with KDE3, but only KDE4 is included in Intrepid. It's probably too late to include 1.1 with Intrepid, even though it appears to build and run correctly for me. Therefore, mplayerthumbs should be dropped from the Intrepid release and made a priority for backports. mplayerthumbs is likely to be more popular in the future since it creates video thumbnails in konqueror and dolphin. In KDE3 this functionality was included, but in KDE4 it is only available through this separate package. People upgrading from Hardy to Intrepid will want to know what happened to their thumbnails. This poor soul was already posting about the problems in Ubuntu's forums two years ago http://

Stable Release Update (SRU) infos:
-Impact: This software is entirely useless in Intrepid since it is designed for older versions of KDE and does not work with KDE4.
-Addressed by: This bug has been addressed by updating the bug to its latest stable version, 1.1, which supports KDE4.
-Testcase: Open up Dolphin and press F11 to make sure the Info pane is there. Then mouse over a .avi movie or similar.
-Patch/regression potential: The diff between the versions is 2 MB in size, so I do not think its possible feasible to patch this. Version 1.1 is basically a complete rewrite. There are no known regressions (except for perhaps missing features), but its hard to regress from a "not working at all" state.
