Bug Description

Firefox does not recognize that the mplayer plugin provides divx support in a standard installation of ubuntu feisty. Using about:config in firefox does not show the divx plugin even though divx support is provided in

/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/mplayerplug-in-dvx.so
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/mplayerplug-in-dvx.xpt

moving these two files to /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/ solves the problem.

this bug is replicated by others as noted in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=396569

According to the changelog for the latest version in gutsy this has been fixed in debian, however only for the debian iceweasel/ape packages (symlinked from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins) also, the directories /usr/lib/iceweasel and /usr/lib/iceape seem to be created by this package, this does not occur in feisty and those packages don't exist in ubuntu

One of the reasons that the divx plugin doesn't work could be also that the plugin writes the value:
enable-dvx=0
in the ~/.mplayer/mplayerplug-in.conf file. (it suddenly did that on my pc and it took me a while to figure it out because no option was shown in the config dialog for enable/disable Divx)

BTW maybe it is good to place the value 1 in the systemwide conf file. (enable-dvx=1) by default.

Thanks for the heads up with the "enable-dvx=0" on home folder I was going out of my mind. ;))
That rely should have been solved with the system wide conf file. It occurred with me on gutsy probably because some of my home was moved from a old festy install.
