mplayer crashes playing webm files from debconf 2015

To reproduce download http://meetings-archive.debian.net/pub/debian-meetings/2015/debconf15/Dpkg_The_Interface.webm from the the videos of debconf and then try to run it in mplayer and it will crash when launching this webm. I have tried downloading multiple different files this one is just an example it will crash.

I expected the video to view like it correctly runs in vlc and mpv but does not with mplayer or gnome-mplayer as the GUI front end. Instead mplayer or gnome mplayer crashes on this file.
