screen suspends while mplayer2 is playing

When I am watching a video with mplayer2, the power manager doesn't refrain from suspending the screen after the configured delay. I don't know whether this is a xfce4-power-manager or mplayer2 bug.

I have the same problem with VLC media player (fullscreen).

xfce4-power-manager cannot detect if an application is currently playing a video file. On top of that, it only sets the timeout values (DPMS) and does not suspend the screen directly. So the media player needs to make sure that the screen will not suspend.
