Entire mplayer window doesn't respond to mouse clicks after pressing ctrl

This bug was originally reported in 2012 on the Gnome Bugzilla

To reproduce, press and release the Ctrl key and click on the close button on the MPlayer window.
The console output says "No bind found for key 'CTRL-CLOSE_WIN'.", so MPlayer somehow doesn't realize the Ctrl key was released.
