same for me when I start with
/usr/bin/mpd --stdout --no-daemon --verbose

so is this normal behavior?
I am using ympd. When stopping ympd it also stops that status message from this client.

The log message means there's a client connected that queries mpd for stats every second. Use a different client, use less verbose logging, but everything is as it should be here.

Changed in mpd (Ubuntu):
status: Confirmed → Invalid
