/forcefsck file doesn't get removed

Bug Description

Binary package hint: mountall

When forcing a fsck, the /forcefsck file never gets removed.

This may be related to the fact that I have an nfs mount in my fstab which is not available at the moment. If so, remote mounts that fail should not cause the post-stop script to get ignored.

The /forcefsck file remains as long as there are filesystems to be mounted (since they may need to be checked), since your NFS filesystem hasn't been mounted yet, the file remains.

As soon as you mount that filesystem, mountall will remove the /forcefsck file

(if all else fails, this happens on shutdown)

Scott's explanation from 2010 was correct. The file gets removed after mountall exits, which it does only after it mounts all auto filesystems listed in /etc/fstab or after something kills the mountall process. If you're seeing /forcefsck still present after multiple reboots, you probably have a buggy /etc/fstab.
