Bug Description
Binary package hint: motion
I found a Catch-22 with motion: Right now, in Hardy, due to this change:
* motion.conf: Default ffmpeg_video_code is swf (libavcodec-dev and
libavformat-dev don't have support to mpeg in Debian). See changelog
ffmpeg-free.
motion outputs video in SWF format. However, an Ubuntu desktop can not view SWF files by default and require extra libraries to view them.
Thus, would it be better for the client (person viewing the videos) to have to install extra libraries, or should the server install mpeg4 libraries to enable .avi output which is viewable by default in the Ubuntu desktop?
For me, it would seem best to output in mpeg4 format for the client's sake.
