Bug Description
I recently got an old but still very nice Thinkpad T41 with 1.5GB RAM.
'decode-dimms' can't see the DRAM EEPROMs without the i2c-i801 kernel module. That module doesn't load automatically because it is blacklisted in /etc/modprobe.
My Thinkpad T41 is not the only laptop to be hit by that blacklist (Fujitsu Esprimo Mobile U9200):
http://
It seems to have been blacklisted because of a suspend issue on an HP Compaq NC6000 (Ubuntu bug #10306).
(For some reason that bug seems to be about apt?! I have tried to find the original bug in Launchpad but I couldn't.)
I can confirm that suspend/resume works just as well with i2c-i801 loaded as without it, i.e. perfectly.
I can also confirm that hibernate/resume doesn't work without i2c-i801 loaded. I haven't tested /with/ the module but I don't expect it to magically work /with/ the module when it doesn't /without/.

I used 'ubuntu-bug linux' to gather information about my system in case you need it.
Also, I don't know if the bug should be assigned to 'lm-sensors' or 'linux' or maybe some other package: it affects the lm-sensors package but it has to be fixed in the 'module-init-tools' package and the i2c-i801.ko module is in 'linux-image-xxxx'.
