Bug Description

Binary package hint: modemmanager

1) lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 9.10
Release: 9.10

2)modemmanager 0.2.git.20091014t233208.16f3e00-0ubuntu1
3)I expect succesful connection, like it was in Jaunty.
4) After some time elapsed, instead of connection get "Connection aborted" notify (not exact,because of ru_RU locale);

At my oppinion, the cause of this is string in log:
"ubuntu modem-manager: Your CDMA modem does not support +CMEE command"

I couldn't find a config where i can disable this option. In jaunty this works.
I have no another way to connect to inernet, i have to use another PC with m$ os to share internet now.
I'll be grateful if you fix it or give workaround.
Ask additional information if possible.

With gnome-ppp modem works (connected etc), but network manager don't see a connection. So i have to use a local connection to cheat with NM anyway.

Tried to patch source manually, removing code with sending "CMEE" command. This is not a solution, modem exiting anyway.
This is an 'unknown' error, maybe (in log i listted before).

I have to correct my previous comment - mm/nm recognise the ZTE MF636 - but only after more than 13 minutes of waiting ...

Here is a more detailed log of the modem-manager-activity (sudo kill -SIGUSR1 `pgrep modem-manager` sets it into debug-mode).

The device still needs to be into the right mode by other means (e.g. usb-modeswitch). IMHO this should be done by modem-manager, otherwise it's not clear to me, what it is good for ..

The same problem for AnyData ADU-510 - no connect through NM after upgrade from 9.04, but can connect through gnome-ppp after removal of modemmanager.

However it works normally on clean install of 9.10

Same problem on Karmic after fresh install onto a new partition.

Device: AnyDATA ADU-310A.

/var/log/syslog and /var/log/udev attached.

There is a workaround: install Ubuntu 9.04, where this works excellently.

bug still exists in lucid :( and it so annoyable! is it so difficult to remove this command +CMEE, or make it optional?

so i can give poor workaround (which works for me now, wroten above ^^):

sudo apt-get install gnome-ppp
sudo service network-manager stop
then remove network-manger from autorun

use then gnome-ppp.

The modem did not respond to CMEE=1 with ok, so i cannot get online with network-manager, It will be great when configurable modem strings are re-added back.

So I'm assuming this bug still exists.
