UPDATE

Jerone's patch works, but is a bit unstable. Intermittently connection drops, and it takes numerous efforts to reconnect.
Also one cannot use wvdial to connect EC1260 with this version of modem mngr

Reverted to the packaged version of modemmanager. Shall continue testing on another system.
