Bug Description

Binary package hint: mlocate

This is with mlocate 0.22.2-1ubuntu in Ubuntu 10.04.1.

I ran locate on some all-too-common search string, and was surprised to see it list results such as:

/home/tv/.Private/ECRYPTFS_FNEK_ENCRYPTED.*

there is absolutely no value in indexing the encrypted form of those, and it just seems like a waste of cpu/disk/whatnot.

mlocate's inflexibility is problematic.. We can't do PRUNENAMES="ECRYPTFS_FNEK_ENCRYPTED.*" as it has no clue about globbing. PRUNEPATHS="/home/*/.Private" seems equally impossible. PRUNENAMES=Private has false positives, but it seems to be the best that is possible, and I've confirmed it to work.
