Yes, mlocate is a nightmare pain in the ... I get to work in the morning and my computer is so unresponsive with updatedb.mlocate eating up nearly 100% IO as shown on iotop. On my previous install, I had changed the service to run in the small hours of the night, but I might try this xdev flag as well.

A service like this shouldn't turn a machine into a 486 trying to run Windows 7!
